Let’s discover the wrecks of the Rivera Maya

You can discover Mama Viña in Playa del Carmen, Juan Escutia C-56, in Puerto Morelos and Felipe Xicoténcatl, C-53 in Cozumel, all host great marine life: grunts, jack fish, groupers and barracudas, big moray eels, lobsters, stingrays, and also some colorful reef fish.

All have been cleared for divers and have large apertures which allows divers to go inside the wreck easily!

The Mama Viña and Juan Escutia are reserved to Advanced Open Water divers or equivalent (max depth is 26m/85ft)

C-56 “Juan Escutia”

This wreck is located in Puerto Morelos it is an old military boat sunk by the Mexican marine in 2000 to create an artificial reef, it is one of the most beautiful wreck dive of the region!

Beside the wreck itself, you will also have the chance to see a great marine life diversity: Corals, gorgonian fans, school of jack fish, groupers, stingrays barracudas and most of the time numerous eagle rays.

It lays on 26m/85ft is therefore only for experimented divers (Advanced Open Water or equivalent).

There is the possibility of doing two dives on the wreck to fully enjoy it or you can also do the second dive on a near shallow reef.

Mama Viña

This wreck is located south of Playa del Carmen, it is a old shrimping boat that have been sunk on purpose in 1995 for divers’ enjoyment!

Beside the wreck itself, you will also have the chance to see a great marine life diversity, the wreck offers shelter to numerous organisms: reef fishes, big moray eels, lobsters, school of jack fish and barracudas.

It lays on 26m/85ft is therefore only for experimented divers (Advanced Open Water or equivalent).

This dive is followed by a colorful reef dive 12m/40ft.

Felipe Xicoténcatl C-53

This wreck is located in Cozumel, it’s an old US navy boat, sold to the Mexican Navy. Later donated to the Cozumel underwater park and sunk on purpose in 1999 for divers enjoyment!

It is the larger wreck of the area, it has a little less marine life due to the close proximity of the reefs but you will still be able to observe various marine organism such as reef fishes, lobsters and barracudas around and in the wreck.

The top of the wreck is at only 14m/45ft which allow Open water divers to do this dive.

ORGANISATION:

Pick up or meeting at 8.30 am, transport to the boat location, 2 dives with 30/45min surface interval, return to your accommodation between 12.30/2 pm depending on the dives location.
